Barzil-2Hi everyone! My name is Tom Baldwin (Wharton / Lauder ’13), and I’m passionate about the emerging world of Brazilian venture capital / startups. Since beginning the Lauder program in the summer of 2011, I’ve immersed myself in the Brazilian ecosystem, leveraging Lauder alumni like Davis Smith (Wharton / Lauder ’11, co-CEO of baby.com.br), Jake Rosenbloom (Wharton / Lauder ’11, CEO of empregoligado.com.br) and Nick Reise (Wharton / Lauder ’11, Investor at Redpoint e.Ventures) to quickly expand my local network. The power of the Wharton / Lauder brand in Brazil – particularly within the startup community – is incredibly strong, so I had no problem rapidly building out my rolodex and establishing myself as serious player within the local startup / VC community. For my summer internship, I interned at a São Paulo-based fashion ecommerce startup (olook.com.br), and I used my time on the ground in São Paulo to continue to make new contacts and solidify my understanding of the Brazilian ecosystem. This past winter, I realized I had built a significant knowledge base, and I thought it would be a great idea to share my views and thoughts with the online community. So I started writing a blog – www.tropicalconsiderations.com – to codify my knowledge and make my insights available to all those interested in the world of Brazilian tech / startups / VC. I hope you find it interesting and useful. Thanks, and don’t forget to follow me on twitter (@thomas_baldwin)!
